Heritage piling techniques captured in unique oil paintings
We recently received a truly unique and heart-warming parcel at Ivor King. Inside were two beautiful vintage oil paintings, accompanied by a letter from a thoughtful lady named Julia Jones. Her father once ran a piling company, similar to ours, called Ashwood Piling, based in Stourbridge. Julia’s mother, a talented artist, captured two stunning scenes of piling works on construction sites in the early 1970s – one at Dudley Port and the other at the Ductile Stourbridge Cold Mills.
These paintings are not just remarkable pieces of art, but a snapshot of piling techniques and equipment from days gone by. Julia discovered our company while researching online and was struck by the similarities between our family-run business and her father’s legacy. Feeling a connection with our history, she generously decided to send these distinctive paintings our way, hoping we’d appreciate them as much as she does.
We are truly honoured by this thoughtful gesture and plan to proudly display these paintings where they can be admired by others. They serve as a fantastic reminder of the hard work, innovation, and family traditions that have driven the piling industry – both in the past and today.
Thank you, Julia, for sharing your family’s history and these remarkable works of art with us. Your kindness and connection to our story has genuinely touched us.
